About The Artist

Irma Kvlividze was born in 1969 in Tbilisi, Georgia. She studied painting and restoration of art at the Georgian Academy of Fine Arts and also studied icon painting in Greece under the guidance of famous Greek masters. During her studies, she visited many Orthodox monasteries. Subsequently, she took part in the painting of many churches in different places in Greece and also in Italy and Switzerland. Her personal style was formed under the influence of both modern painting and Byzantine iconography as well.

For me, art is a way of personal connection with the beautiful and a feeling of unity with a world. I don’t know what comes first, the inspiration or the necessity of making art. For many years, I was exclusively engaged in icon painting because of its pure nature of the human quest for eternal. In the process I developed a desire to combine this prodigious world with a multifaceted world of modern painting and see what would come out of it. It’s a very complicated but exciting process, and I think it’s far from over Irma Kvlividze
